Enhancing Accessibility and Sustainability at the Buffalo Zoo’s Main Entrance

Miller Construction was contracted to revitalize the main entry plaza at the Buffalo Zoo, replacing aging permeable concrete with new, durable materials to improve both functionality and appearance.

This project created a refreshed, welcoming entry experience for visitors while incorporating modern permeable paving solutions that support the zoo’s ongoing sustainability goals.

The scope of work included:

  • Removal of existing plaza trees to allow for reconfiguration
  • Preparation of the existing subbase to support new surfaces
  • Installation of new flush concrete curbs
  • Installation of interlocking permeable pavers and standard concrete walkways
  • Tree and landscape plantings to reintroduce greenery to the space
